Castor oil is derived from the seed of the castor plant and is mainly composed of three fatty acids, Ricinoleic, Linoleic and Oleic. Ninety percent of the fatty acid content is from Ricinoleic acid, which is an unsaturated omega-9 fatty acid that has been used for decades as a strong pain-reliever and natural anti-inflammatory.
Castor oil has miraculous healing potential and can be used for a wide range of ailments.
Here are three of my favourites:
Castor Oil Pack for detoxification and pain relief
Castor oil packs are a wonderful way to improve circulation of the blood and Lymphatic system. They are a great compliment to any cleansing program because they can reduce inflammation, improve liver detoxification, support uterine and ovarian health and speed up the process of elimination of unwanted toxins. The application of castor oil packs can bring significant relief for any kind of trauma, sprain or degenerative joint disorder.
Castor oil packs are made with several layers of flannel and cold-pressed castor oil. When placed on the affected area, the pack acts as a poultice to draw out infection.
How to Make a Castor Oil Pack
– One thick piece of material like flannel, wool, or cotton
– Castor oil
– glass jug
– hot water bottle
– plastic bag
– large towel
Wear old clothes. Lay down a towel covered with a bin bag for protection from staining. Pour castor oil over your flannel(can be re-used) so that is is soaked through but not dripping, lie down with your feet slightly elevated and place the flannel on the area that you wish to treat (the stomach is a great start for digestive issues), cover with a plastic bag and then rest the hot water bottle on top for 45-60 minutes. Once complete, remove the pack and clean the area with Bicarbonate soda and water. Fold the soaked flannel and store in a mason jar ready for your next time (add more castor oil and use up to 20 times).
For disorders relating to the digestion, intestines, liver, lungs or reproductive organs a series of castor oil packs on the abdomen for 60-90 minutes a day can have remarkable effects. For severe back pain, lay on a castor oil pack for 90 minutes every day for 5 days.
Castor oil for skin care
Castor oil may be applied directly to the skin for dryness, stretch marks, acne, rashes, hives, fungus, infections, boils, furuncles, liver spots (age spots), warts, wrinkles and sunburn. The castor oil can stimulate the production of collagen and delay the appearance of wrinkles. For warts or pimples a small amount can be applied to a band aid and placed directly on the spot overnight.
Castor can also be used as a treatment for infection or fungus in the finger or toe nails. Apply castor oil directly and gently rub into the area for a minute or two. Repeat this application 2 or 3 times a day for a few weeks or up to two months.
Castor Oil for hair growth
Castor oil can be used as a natural moisturiser for the hair thatcan help to prevent hair loss, stimulate hair growth and help in the treatment of dandruff. The oil naturally boosts blood circulation to the follicles and the Omega 6 essential fatty acids help to reduce split ends.
To make a hot oil hair mask simply warm the oil by placing the oil container in a glass of hot water. After a few minutes, apply the oil to the hair massaging it thoroughly into the scalp and comb gently through to the ends. Also apply small amount to eyebrows. Wait 30 minutes, shampoo and enjoy the compliments about your new shiny hair.
