I always mention in my talks about Holistic Nutrition about how your breakfast is the most important meal of the day and your choices for breakfast will set your intention for the rest of the day.
Should you choose to start the day with a cappuccino and greasy bacon and egg sandwich on white bread then you are surely going to exert a great deal of energy on attempting to digest a meal that is not giving you anything nutritionally in return except a temporary spike in blood sugar levels which will eventually come crashing back down and probably a bad case of bloating, fatigue and flatulence.
A better way to start the day would be by super charging your body with the most nutrient dense foods available and consuming it as a liquid (Breakfast Smoothie) so that your body is able to absorb it directly into your cells as quickly as possible. Imagine the impact this healthy choice for breakfast will have on your energy, vitality and immune system for the rest of the day.
A good starter base for the smoothie would be anything green, I like to use either spinach or Kale but really anything leafy and green would be suitable. The only exception to this rule is if you suffer from Hypothyroidism in which case its good to avoid Goitrogen foods as they can suppress Thyroid function. Next I would add half a green apple to add extra fiber along with a tablespoon of flaxseeds to provide those essential Omega 3 fatty acids. To add a burst of antioxidants I would add a couple of handfuls of berries and to really supercharge the nutrition I like to add a super food, this is usually a tablespoon of Chlorella or an organic Wheatgrass powder.
Adding a super food such as Wheatgrass to your Breakfast Smoothie provides a blast of vitamins and minerals, live enzymes, amino acids, antioxidants and of course pure energy. It will also induce a mild detoxification process within the body which can help to clear out accumulated toxins.
Preparing the smoothie will take only a couple of minutes and drinking it even quicker. Set a good intention for the day and choose to go green for your breakfast. If you could try doing this for 5 days of the week you should notice a dramatic shift in your energy levels and an increase in your bowel movements of course leading to an overall reduction in intestinal inflammation and an increase of overall energy and vitality.
